Victorian
This term refers generally to the art and literature that was created during the reign of Queen Victoria of England (1837-1901). The qualities of smug narrowmindedness, bourgeois materialism, faith in social progress, and priggish morality are often considered Victorian. This is not true of all Victorian authors, however. The Victorian era produced some of the most controversial and forward thinkers that the world had ever seen such as Charles Darwin, Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud..
The Victorian era saw the rise of the great English novel. Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Emily Bronte and Charles Hardy.
Well known Victorian poets: Lord Tennyson Robert Browning The latter part of the era saw rise to movements such as decadence and symbolism.
